The Uttar Pradesh government has filed a states report in the Supreme Court addressing the ongoing issue related to a well in the Sambhal Jama Masjid.
The report refutes claims made by the Masjid Committee that the well belongs to mosque property, confirming instead that it lies on public land.
Additionally, the government has rejected the Masjid Committee’s attempt to mislead the court with false evidence, asserting that the well is part of a larger initiative by the district administration to rejuvenate 19 ancient wells for community benefit.

The Masjid Committee had earlier claimed that the well was part of the mosque’s property, and thus any intervention in it could lead to religious unrest.
The Supreme Court had intervened earlier, halting proceedings in the case and cautioning the parties about potential violence arising from the situation.
The government, however, clarified that the revival of the well would be part of a larger plan for water conservation and that it would benefit all communities once revitalized.
