Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington on Wednesday for a two-day visit and will meet re-elected US President Donald Trump to further strengthen India-US relations. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora despite the cold weather.
Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi posted on X, “Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has welcomed me with a very special welcome. My gratitude to them.”

Focus On Strengthening India-US Partnership
Before departing for the US, PM Modi emphasized the significance of his visit, stating, “This visit will further cement India-USA friendship and boost ties in diverse sectors.” He also recalled working with President Trump during his first term and expressed optimism about building on past progress.
PM Modi flew in from France, where he co-hosted the Artificial Intelligence Summit with President Emmanuel Macron and inaugurated India’s consulate in Marseille. His visit to Washington marks his 10th trip to the US as Prime Minister and his fourth official meeting with President Trump.
Building On Recent Diplomatic Engagements
With this visit, PM Modi becomes the fourth world leader to meet President Trump after his re-election, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II-highlighting India’s geostrategic importance to the US.
Reflecting on past collaborations, PM Modi stated, “Although this will be our first meeting following his historic electoral victory and inauguration in January, I have a very warm recollection of working together in his first term in building a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US.”
He further added, “This visit will be an opportunity to build upon the successes of our collaboration in his first term and develop an agenda to further elevate and deepen our partnership, including in the areas of technology, trade, defence, energy, and supply chain resilience.”
As India and the US look to strengthen their strategic partnership, PM Modi’s visit is expected to lay the foundation for deeper cooperation across multiple sectors.
