Polling for the Milkipur bye-election in Ayodhya district, Uttar Pradesh, commenced at 7 AM today. A total of 3,70,829 voters will decide the fate of 10 candidates contesting for the Assembly seat.
The key contenders include:
- Chandrabhanu Paswan from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and
- Ajit Prasad representing the Samajwadi Party (SP)
Reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), the Milkipur constituency holds significant political weight, drawing attention due to its impact on state politics.
This election has gained added importance following the SP’s unexpected victory in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat last year, shortly after the Ram temple’s inauguration in Ayodhya.
Officials have strengthened security arrangements to ensure fair polling.
Additionally, they are conducting webcasting at 210 polling stations and have set up videography at 25 locations.
Additionally, 71 polling stations have been assigned micro observers, while the election process is being monitored by nine flying squad teams, nine static monitoring teams, six video monitoring teams, two super zonal magistrates, four zonal magistrates, and 41 sector magistrates.
With both the BJP and SP vying for dominance, this bypoll has turned into a high-stakes contest.
Beyond determining the winner, the election outcome will serve as a crucial indicator of voter sentiment in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for future political developments.
