The stage is set for the Delhi Assembly Election 2025, with polling occurring Today across all 70 constituencies in one phase. After the votes are counted, the results will be announced on February 8.
A Crucial Political Contest
Delhi’s election is the first major political battle of 2025, and the next chief minister will be decided. The contest is a three-way fight between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress.

AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been in power since 2015, winning back-to-back elections. Before AAP, Congress ruled Delhi for 15 years under the late Sheila Dikshit. The BJP has not held power in the capital for 27 years.
Delhi’s Unique Political Structure
Unlike full-fledged states, Delhi is a Union Territory with an elected assembly. It is officially called the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and has a Lieutenant Governor appointed by the Union Government.

Voting begins at 7 AM today, and all eyes are on Delhi as the electorate prepares to decide its next government in this high-stakes election.
Notably, around 3,000 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, requiring special attention and drone surveillance. To tackle any kind of law-and-order situation Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have also been stationed.
Among all 70 constituencies, 12 are reserved for scheduled candidates.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, contesting from New Delhi, and Chief Minister Atishi, in the fight from Kalkaji, are among the high-profile candidates. Congress has fielded Sandeep Dixit against Arvind Kejriwal and Alka Lamba before Atishi to reclaim its presence in the national capital.
Meanwhile, the BJP has placed its bets on Parvesh Verma (New Delhi), Ramesh Bidhuri (Kalkaji), Arvinder Singh Lovely (Gandhi Nagar), Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar) and Kailash Gahlot (Bijwasan).
‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy, Pollution, Yamuna water quality, and allegations of voter list tampering remained a few of the key issues during the campaign.
Moreover, AAP registered a landslide victory during the assembly election of 2020 gaining 62 seats of 70 assembly seats. BJP secured the remaining 8 seats, However, Congress could not make its presence felt.
