Ajay Maken criticized the AAP government for withholding financial aid to 3.20 lakh girls under the Ladli Yojana.

On Tuesday, AICC treasurer and former Delhi Assembly Speaker Ajay Maken accused the AAP government of withholding financial assistance from 3.20 lakh girls under the Ladli Yojana, a scheme launched by the Congress government in 2008.

Maken, as part of the Congress party’s ‘AAP ke Pap’ campaign, presented findings from a CAG report at a press conference. He questioned the AAP government’s claims of working for the welfare of the people.

Maken stated, “The AAP government is saying that they will give Rs 2,100 a month to women in future but is denying girls their due monetary benefits under the ‘Ladli Yojana’ despite having the money. Who will trust that they will give the promised Rs 2,100 a month to women?”

Maken Accuses AAP Government Of Suppressing CAG Report

Maken alleged that the AAP government was suppressing the CAG report, which revealed poor implementation of the Ladli Yojana.

According to the findings, as of December 2022, 3.2 lakh women were still awaiting their pay-out under the scheme, even though the government had Rs 618 crore available for it.

The Ladli Yojana, introduced to prevent female feticide and promote education for the girl child, provides financial assistance to girls from birth until they turn 18.

Over the years, the program aimed to provide a total payout of more than Rs 1 lakh.

Maken further pointed out that under the AAP government, the number of registrations for the Ladli Yojana had decreased threefold since its launch under Sheila Dikshit’s leadership.

“Some of the beneficiaries awaiting payment have turned 26 while they should have been given the money at 18,” Maken asserted, accusing the AAP government of sitting on the funds meant for the girl children.

In addition, Maken criticized the AAP government for failing to build three old age homes in Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, and Geeta Colony, despite the Union government allocating land for the purpose in 2013.

Maken noted, “The Sheila Dikshit government had enacted a law in 2007 for establishing senior citizen homes in each district. The AAP government has failed to implement the scheme.”
