The opposition leader receives major relief as the apex court stays the proceeding against Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case over alleged remark on Amit Shah for now.
Seeking a reply in four weeks, the court has notified Jharkhand, among others, as it has stayed proceedings against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Amit Shah until further orders.
Now the case will be listed before the Supreme Court after 6 weeks. Notably, Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Jharkhand High Court dated 22 February 2024 as the HC had rejected Rahul Gandhi’s demand to dismiss the defamation case filed by BJP leader Naveen Jha.

Additionally, BJP leader Jha reached court registering protest on Gandhi’s remark on Home Minister Amit Shah calling him a murderer during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections campaign.
Describing, Gandhi’s statement as an uncontrolled one, Jha’s lawyer said that the order of the High Court had paved the way for criminal proceedings against Rahul Gandhi and his uncontrolled tongue.
Moreover, two cases are going on against Rahul Gandhi in Jharkhand. BJP leader and complainant Naveen Jha has filed a case in the lower court of Ranchi against the objectionable remarks made on Amit Shah. Another case is listed before the Chaibasa court.
The court had taken cognizance of the matter and started proceedings, prompting Rahul to approach the HC, which barred coercive action against him till further orders. On Feb 16, HC finally dismissed Rahul’s petition seeking quashing of the case
