A special event focusing on environmental and wildlife conservation was held at Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj Government College in Palia Kalan, Kheri district, on Sunday. The program, titled ‘Environment Warrior – Wildlife Conservation Curtain Raiser,’ aimed to recognize individuals contributing to conservation efforts, release a special calendar, and launch a dedicated website to promote environmental awareness.
Organized with the support of Sarojini Nagar Assembly MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, the event saw the participation of key figures, including Uttar Pradesh’s Finance Minister, Mr. Suresh Kumar Khanna, who was the chief guest. During the program, Mr. Khanna inaugurated a digital library at the college, established through the efforts of Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, who provided five computers for the library. Additionally, five meritorious students from the college were honored with tablets.
Release of Calendar And Website
A key highlight of the event was the release of a website, EnvironmentWarriors.com, and a special calendar dedicated to environmental conservation. The calendar features important dates related to environmental issues, both in India and globally. All the photographs in the calendar were taken by renowned environmentalist and educator Shri Ambika Mishra.
Honoring Conservationists
The program also recognized individuals for their exceptional contributions to wildlife conservation. Five frontline staff from the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve were specially honored for their work. Additionally, bicycles were distributed to 30 forest watchers from the Terai region. The prestigious ‘Pride of Terai Award’ was presented to several eminent personalities, including Shri Lalit Verma, Field Director of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, Dr. Utkarsh Shukla, Deputy Director of Lucknow Zoo, Shri Kamaljit Singh, Managing Director of Dudhwa IHCL Select, Shri Brijlal, an environmentalist, and Shri Apoorv Gupta, a wildlife biologist.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Talks
In his address, MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh emphasized the growing global concern over environmental conservation. He expressed alarm over issues such as rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and air pollution. Dr. Singh called for an end to the indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources and stressed the need for greater environmental awareness. Citing the Global Footprint Network, he noted the increasing consumption of the Earth’s resources, with ‘Earth Overshoot Day’ arriving earlier each year. He urged the youth to take an active role in protecting the environment, highlighting that 60% of India’s youth will play a pivotal role in shaping the future.

Finance Minister Shri Suresh Kumar Khanna praised the initiative, calling it a significant step toward long-term environmental protection. He described the program as an important milestone in the collective effort for conservation.

The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including former Chief Income Tax Commissioner and UP RERA Appellate Tribunal member Shri Rameshwar Singh, former MP Shri Jugal Kishore, and District Magistrate Kheri Smt. Durga Shakti Nagpal, SSP Kheri Shri Sankalp Sharma, and Smt. Shankari Singh, among others.
Government’s Commitment To Conservation
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts in environmental conservation under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Over the past five years, the state has planted more than 200 crore saplings, with several special conservation programs focused on the Terai region.
This unique event not only raised awareness about the importance of environmental protection but also celebrated the tireless efforts of individuals and organizations working towards wildlife conservation. The program is expected to inspire both the Terai region and the entire state in the fight for a greener, more sustainable future.
