On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a special radio channel, ‘Kumbhvani,’ in Prayagraj, coinciding with the ongoing Maha Kumbh celebrations.
The channel, part of All India Radio’s Akashvani, aims to broadcast the religious and cultural significance of the Kumbh Mela.
At the event, CM Adityanath said that those who hold a ‘narrow’ view of Sanatan Dharma and claim caste-based discrimination should witness the Maha Kumbh Mela, where people from all backgrounds come together to bathe in the holy Sangam.
While addressing the officials and dignitaries at the event, CM Adityanath stated, “Maha Kumbh is not just a (simple) event. It represents the Sanatan pride, a mega gathering. Anyone who wants to witness the glory of Sanatan Dharma should come here for the Kumbh. Those who see Sanatan Dharma in a narrow way and divide people by saying that there persists discrimination, should come and see that there is no discrimination on the basis of caste. There is no practice of untouchability. There is no discrimination on the basis of gender. All gather together to bathe in Sangam.”
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and other cabinet ministers joined Adityanath at the launch. Prasar Bharati introduced the ‘Kumbhvani’ radio channel to facilitate coverage of the Maha Kumbh.
UP CM Praises Prasar Bharti For Launching Maha Kumbh Radio Channel
The UP CM however praised Prasar Bharti for launching a dedicated radio channel for the Maha Kumbh, noting that it has successfully navigated challenges despite changing times.
“Akashvani was the only medium we had to reach commoners and provide them with folk culture and tradition. I remember, during childhood, we used to listen to the lines from Ramcharitmanas which were broadcasted by Akashvani. With time, things changed and people shifted to visual mediums. However, Prasar Bharati managed to stay put despite these challenges, especially in areas where there are connectivity issues,” said the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
On Thursday, CM Adityanath inaugurated a media center for Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, after reviewing preparations for the event. He further shared that his visit to just two sectors lasted over 4 hours, during which he met various religious leaders and reviewed the progress.
The Maha Kumbh, a rare event held once every 12 years, will likely attract over 45 crore devotees.
The main bathing rituals, or Shahi Snan, will occur on 14 January (Makar Sankranti), 29 January (Mauni Amavasya), and 3 February (Basant Panchami). The event will however conclude on 26 February.
