The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Sunil Maan, an accused in the infamous August 2015 jail van double murder case. He was granted bail on medical grounds.
The court granted Maan two weeks of bail to undergo treatment for his varicose veins after he had been in judicial custody for over nine years. The decision comes after the court reviewed his medical condition and noted that he had not received any previous interim relief in the case.
Jail Van Double Murder Case
Neeraj Bawana and his henchmen allegedly killed two members of the Neetu Dabodia gang while transporting them in a jail van from Rohini Court to Tihar Jail.
The Mangolpuri Police Station lodged a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the incident.
The jail van was carrying both the deceased and the accused following a hearing in the murder case of Pradeep Dahiya, a member of the Dabodia gang.
At the time of the killings, Paras Vikram had taken over leadership of the Dabodia gang after Neetu Dabodia’s death in a 2013 encounter with the Special Cell.
Delhi Court’s Order & Bail Conditions
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani, while granting the interim bail, acknowledged the gravity of the charges against Maan. However, considering his long period in custody and the medical concerns raised, the court decided to provide temporary relief for medical treatment.
The court imposed strict conditions for his interim bail. Maan was instructed to furnish a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh along with three sureties of the same amount from his family members or relatives.
The court requires him to report to the police station every alternate day during the bail period. Additionally, the court directed Maan to surrender before the jail superintendent at the end of the two weeks.
The court also asked for the medical documents and a discharge summary to prove that he underwent the necessary procedure while out on bail.
Despite the serious nature of the offences alleged against him, the court considered the medical report detailing his condition of varicose veins in granting interim bail.
This temporary relief aims to allow Maan to address his health issues while ensuring that he remains accountable under the terms set by the court.
