Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged that plans were underway to arrest Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on fabricated charges and conduct raids on senior party leaders ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The accusations come amidst growing political tension and controversies surrounding AAP’s welfare initiatives.
The controversy intensified after the Delhi Health and Family Welfare Department publicly denounced AAP’s registration drive for the Sanjeevani Yojana, a scheme promising free healthcare for senior citizens. In a notice published on Wednesday, the department clarified that no such scheme existed.
The notice stated, “The Health and Family Welfare Department has not authorised any individual or political party to collect personal data from elderly citizens, nor does it provide any card for such purposes. Any activity under the name of this scheme is fraudulent and without authority.”
Kejriwal’s Allegations
In response, Kejriwal claimed that political opponents were orchestrating false cases to undermine AAP’s welfare initiatives. He accused them of planning Atishi’s arrest and initiating raids on party leaders to disrupt their campaign.

“These people are rattled by the Mahila Samman Yojana and the Sanjeevani Yojana. They have planned to arrest Atishi ji in the next few days by framing a fake case. Before that, raids will be conducted on senior AAP leaders. I will hold a press conference today at 12 o’clock to expose these plans,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
AAP’s Flagship Schemes Ahead Of Elections
AAP recently announced two flagship welfare schemes, the Mahila Samman Yojana and the Sanjeevani Yojana, as part of its campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal kickstarted the registration process for these schemes on Tuesday, engaging in a door-to-door campaign alongside Atishi and other leaders.
Under the Mahila Samman Yojana, eligible women will receive ₹1,000 per month. Meanwhile, the Sanjeevani Yojana promises free healthcare for senior citizens in government and private hospitals if AAP retains power.
Kejriwal and Atishi have been actively visiting neighborhoods to promote the initiatives and encourage registration. The schemes aim to address healthcare and financial security for vulnerable groups, enhancing AAP’s focus on welfare-driven governance.
Escalating Political Tensions
The allegations of planned arrests and raids, coupled with the Health Department’s criticism, have heightened political tensions in Delhi. As the Assembly elections draw closer, the AAP government faces increasing scrutiny and challenges to its welfare programs.
Kejriwal’s press conference later in the day is expected to shed further light on the alleged plans and intensify the political discourse leading up to the polls.
