Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is currently on a three-day state visit to New Delhi, was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. This marks his first overseas visit since assuming office in September, following his victory in Sri Lanka’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
A Warm Reception At Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Dissanayake was warmly welcomed by Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who were present at the ceremonial reception. The leaders introduced their respective ministers, diplomats, and senior officials, emphasizing the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi also participated in the event, highlighting the importance of the bilateral ties.
Focus On Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
President Dissanayake will hold crucial discussions with Prime Minister Modi later in the day to reinforce diplomatic and economic ties. Their talks will address a wide range of regional and global challenges, including trade, investment, energy, and maritime security.

Earlier on Sunday, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with President Dissanayake, emphasizing Sri Lanka’s prominent role in India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and the “SAGAR Outlook” (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Minister Jaishankar expressed his confidence that the upcoming talks between President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Modi would result in “greater trust and deeper cooperation.” Jaishankar underscored Sri Lanka’s significance as a key partner in India’s regional and security strategy.
Productive Discussions With Indian Leadership
Before his official engagements with Prime Minister Modi, President Dissanayake held “fruitful discussions” with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Minister Jaishankar. The discussions covered matters of mutual interest, strengthening the foundation for the collaboration between the two nations.
President Dissanayake’s visit signifies a deepening of ties between India and Sri Lanka, with both countries keen to address shared challenges and explore new avenues for cooperation.
