Former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and BJP MP Dinesh Sharma has accused the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) of engaging in vote bank politics. He alleged both parties are vying to appease minorities, prioritizing votes over genuine concerns.
Race for Minority Votes Between Congress and SP
Dr Sharma criticized SP and Congress for their focus on minority votes. He said SP is trying to retain its minority base, while Congress is attempting to attract the same voters. Sharma claimed this rivalry stems from their inability to recover after defeats in recent by-elections.
He noted BJP’s victory in places like Rampur and Kundarki, where minorities voted for BJP instead of SP or Congress. “Minorities now realize BJP is working for all citizens without bias. They see through SP and Congress, who treat them as mere vote banks,” said Dr. Sharma.
Dr Sharma dismissed allegations by SP that police were working like BJP workers. He called these claims baseless and said such accusations are made to stay in the headlines. “Congress has reduced itself to a party smaller than regional ones. SP and Congress blame BJP to remain relevant,” he added.
Situation in Bangladesh Ignored by Opposition
Dr Sharma also criticized opposition parties for their silence on issues affecting Hindus in Bangladesh. He said the country is in turmoil due to fundamentalists and Taliban influence. “Congress and SP speak about Afghanistan and Palestine but ignore atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh because they are not a vote bank,” he asserted.
He urged opposition leaders to stop using minorities for political gains and wait for the government’s commission report on Sambhal, led by a retired High Court judge.
