An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team was attacked while investigating a cyber-crime case in the Bijwasan area of the city on Thursday morning.
One ED official was reportedly injured during the assault.
The attack on the ED team happened when they arrived the house of a cyber fraud suspect in Bijwasan to interrogate him in the PPPYL cyber app fraud case.
Sharma, along with his family members, is alleged to have launched the assault on the ED officers. Local police were quickly dispatched to the scene and took control of the situation.
Reports indicate that an Assistant Director with the ED was injured in the attack and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
An FIR has been filed against Ashok Sharma and his family, who fled the scene following the incident.
The police have initiated a manhunt and formed multiple teams to track down the accused.
The ED’s investigation into the PPPYL cyber app fraud has revealed widespread fraudulent activity. This includes QR code scams and fake job offers.
The ED in its investigation found that the proceeds of money was being deposited in 15,000 fake accounts. It was then routed through debit and credit cards to transfer it into virtual accounts on UAE-based PYYPL payment aggregator.
These funds were used to purchase cryptocurrencies.
Authorities suspect that a chartered accountant may be orchestrating the fraudulent network. The ED has launched a major crackdown on the racket, believed to have operations throughout the Delhi-NCR region.
