Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) ‘Final Call’ protest rally, led by Bushra Bibi, has reached outskirts of Islamabad. Security forces have set up massive roadblocks to stop the rally from entering the capital.
Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, vowed to press on until his release. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is also leading the rally, which has drawn thousands of PTI supporters.
Protesters Face Security Measures near Islamabad
Security forces fired rubber bullets at protesters camping near Islamabad. Officials placed shipping containers on key routes to block their entry. Addressing supporters, Bushra Bibi urged them to march to D-Chowk for a sit-in.
“We will not leave without Imran Khan,” she declared. PTI also demands the reversal of the 26th amendment and restoration of February’s election mandate, which they claim was stolen.
Government Accuses PTI of Violence
The government accused PTI of inciting violence. Punjab spokesperson Azma Bukhari condemned PTI for torching a police van and injuring officers. She blamed PTI for causing chaos and risking lives.
Reports indicate behind-the-scenes negotiations are ongoing between PTI, the government, and the military. Officials urged PTI to halt the rally, citing the lack of legal permission and the visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Despite warnings, PTI supporters remain resolute. They aim to continue protesting until their demands are met, raising the possibility of clashes near the capital.
