The Gujarat Titans (GT) secured West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford for Rs 2.6 crore during the IPL 2025 accelerated auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah on Monday. Starting at a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, Rutherford sparked a bidding war between GT and Mumbai Indians (MI). Gujarat emerged victorious, closing the deal at Rs 2.6 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) added experienced middle-order batter Manish Pandey to their squad for Rs 75 lakh. Pandey, signed at his base price, attracted no competing bids. The defending champions made a strategic acquisition with the veteran Indian batter.
Notable Buys in IPL 2025 Accelerated Auction
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured Tamil Nadu spinner M Siddharth for Rs 75 lakh. Sunrisers Hyderabad picked Uttar Pradesh leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari for Rs 40 lakh, fending off early interest from Delhi Capitals.
LSG further added off-spinner Digvesh Singh at his base price of Rs 30 lakh, bolstering their spin department.
Unsold Players and Omitted Names
Prominent international players Finn Allen, Dewald Brevis, and Ben Duckett remained unsold in the accelerated round. Among Indian talents, names like Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, and Devdutt Padikkal were notably absent from the shortlist.
The auction pool comprised 143 players shortlisted by the franchises. Noteworthy omissions included James Anderson, the oldest player in the pool, alongside Glenn Phillips and Kane Williamson.
The IPL 2025 accelerated auction updates highlighted strategic moves by franchises, focusing on cost-effective acquisitions to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season.
