On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed former AAP leader and minister Kailash Gahlot as a member of Delhi Assembly Election Coordination Committee.
Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva, with the approval of the party’s senior leadership, made the appointment.
A Strategic Appointment Ahead Of Polls
Gahlot, who stepped down as Delhi Transport Minister on 17 November, joined the BJP the following day.
His inclusion in the BJP’s election coordination team is seen as a strategic move as the party gears up for the Delhi Assembly elections slated for early next year.
Earlier, on Friday, Gahlot met Union Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda to discuss poll preparations.
Taking to X, Gahlot posted, “Today, I had a courtesy meeting with Hon’ble National President and Union Minister Shri @JPNadda at the BJP headquarters, where Delhi Pradesh President Shri @virend_sachdeva was also present.”
“During the conversation, I received guidance on various issues related to the organization and public service,” he added.
Gahlot further asserted, “The discussion also included the idea of forming a BJP government in Delhi this time, so that, as the capital of the country, Delhi can experience world-class development and all its residents can receive excellent services.”

Disillusionment With AAP
Speaking to the media after his BJP induction, Gahlot stated, “It doesn’t happen overnight, it happens over a prolonged period. It takes time to understand a few things. I am repeating this again and again that we are connected to some values and principles. If we see some dilution in the same, I think I mustered the courage to quit. There are several others like me who are unable to muster courage. I think they will continue.”
AAP Announces First List Of Candidates
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party released its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The list includes nominees for key constituencies such as Chhatarpur, Vishwas Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Karawal Nagar.
The stakes are high for AAP, which secured an overwhelming 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 polls.
The BJP, despite its dominance at the national level, managed to win only eight seats in the last state elections.
