CA Manoj K Patwari’s book Income Tax Search and Scissors was released on Monday, 18 November, at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan. Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was the chief guest. Bharat Express News Network Chairman, MD, and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai also attended the event and shared a personal story about the Income Tax Department.
Upendra Rai Reflects on First Encounter with Income Tax Department
In his speech, Upendra Rai recalled his first visit to the Income Tax Department when he arrived in Mumbai on 6 December 1999 as Bureau Chief of Rashtriya Sahara. He described how he visited the office in the Income Tax building, where he met a Rajbhasha Officer from the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposal.
Income Tax Department’s Humanity Highlighted by Rai
Rai praised the humanitarian side of the Income Tax Department. He shared how VK Barnwal, a senior IRS officer, helped arrange his marriage at the age of 24. Rai said Barnwal, who was about to become the Chief Commissioner, treated him like family and made his wedding possible.
Rai’s Wedding Arrangements by Income Tax Department
Rai spoke about the special arrangements the Income Tax Department made for his wedding. His ring ceremony and wedding reception were held at the Juhu Centaur Hotel. Later, the department arranged for his wedding vows to be exchanged at Shantikunj in Haridwar.
A Tribute to Departed Officers
Rai paid tribute to officers like Barnwal who had passed away. He recalled their kindness and the lasting impact they had on his life. He concluded his speech with a lighthearted remark about his “friendship with the mic” and ended with “Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.”
