BJP Unveils Second List Of Candidates For Jharkhand Assembly Elections

Ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its second list of candidates on Monday.

This announcement includes two key figures:

• Gamliyel Hembrom, set to contest from the Barhait constituency, and
• Vikash Mahato, who will run for election in Tundi

Hembrom will compete in the electoral race against Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Hemant Soren.

Soren has held the Barhait seat since 2014, making this a significant contest for the BJP.

In Tundi, Mahato will challenge JMM’s Mathura Prasad Mahato, who secured a decisive victory in the 2019 elections with over 72,000 votes, significantly outpacing BJP’s Vikram Pandey, who garnered 46,000 votes.

This announcement follows the BJP’s earlier release of a list containing 66 candidates on 19 October.

Noteworthy candidates include state president Babulal Marandi, contesting from Dhanwar, Lobin Hembrom in Borio, and former Chief Minister Champai Soren in Saraikella.

BJP Introduces 40 Notable Campaigners

To bolster their campaign efforts, the BJP also revealed a roster of 40 prominent campaigners last Friday.

This impressive lineup features high-profile names such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and a host of influential Union Ministers, including Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.

Additionally, chief ministers from various states, such as Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, will lend their support to the campaign.

The political landscape in Jharkhand is heating up as the state gears up for a two-way electoral contest.

The ruling Congress-JMM alliance, supported by the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), has largely finalized its candidate slate.

Conversely, the BJP is collaborating with partners like the All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) to field candidates across the state.
The BJP is set to contest 68 seats, with AJSU aiming for 10, and JD(U) and LJP vying for two and one seats, respectively.

The elections for the Jharkhand Assembly, which has 81 seats, will take place in two phases on 13 and 20 November, and officials will announce the results on 23 November.

An estimated 2.60 crore voters are eligible to participate, including approximately 1.31 crore men and 1.29 crore women, with 11.84 lakh first-time voters ready to make their mark.
