NCPUL Showcases Urdu Literature At Frankfurt Book Fair, A First for Urdu Enthusiasts

At the India Pavilion, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT) of India, the NCPUL is displaying around 150 Urdu titles. These titles showcase the diversity and richness of Urdu literature

The National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) is proudly representing India at the 75th Frankfurt Book Fair, held from October 16 to 20, 2024. The prestigious fair, one of the largest in the world, features over 17,000 publishers, authors, and literary agents from 130 countries. NCPUL’s participation marks a significant milestone for the promotion of Urdu literature on an international platform.

Urdu Titles Showcased at India Pavilion

At the India Pavilion, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT) of India, the NCPUL is displaying around 150 Urdu titles. These titles showcase the diversity and richness of Urdu literature, drawing appreciation from visitors of various linguistic backgrounds. Urdu authors and publishers have also commended the NCPUL for bringing Urdu literature to such a prestigious global event. The fair also featured the launch of “Aayeen-e-Hind: Ankahi Kahani” by Ram Bahadur Rai at the India Pavilion on October 17, 2024. Prominent figures like author Arif Naqvi and Professor Milind Sudhakar Marathe, Chairman of NBT India, graced the event.

NCPUL officials Mohammad Ahmed, Assistant Director (Admin), and Ajmal Saeed, Assistant Education Officer, represented the council at the event. Their dedication and efforts have been acknowledged for playing a key role in promoting Urdu literature on the world stage.

A Major Milestone for Urdu Literature

Dr. Shams Equbal, Director of NCPUL, expressed his pride in the council’s participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair, calling it a “tremendous honor” for Urdu enthusiasts. He noted that this is the first time an Urdu organization has participated in such a major international literary event, making it a landmark moment for the recognition and growth of Urdu on a global scale.

Dr. Equbal credited the tireless efforts of the NCPUL team for this achievement, emphasizing that their work has been crucial in showcasing the beauty and depth of Urdu literature to a global audience. He described the participation as a key step in elevating Urdu’s status and visibility, helping it gain the recognition it deserves in the international literary community.
