On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep gratitude to the male and female fighters of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and security personnel, pledging to complete the mission of overthrowing Hamas and freeing the remaining hostages held in Gaza.
“We will end the war when we complete all the goals we set: overthrowing the evil rule of Hamas, returning all our abductees home—both the dead and the living,” Netanyahu declared during a special ceremony marking the one-year anniversary of the deadly October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.
Reflecting on the October 7 Attacks
Netanyahu lit a candle in memory of the over 1,200 people killed in the attacks. The Israeli leader described the events of October 7 as the most horrific attack on Jews since the Holocaust, calling it a war for Israel’s existence.
“Since that black day, we are under attack on seven fronts… but unlike in the Holocaust, we rose up and fought a fierce war,” he said.
Honoring IDF Heroes and Securing Israel’s Future
Paying homage to fallen IDF soldiers, Netanyahu credited their bravery for Israel’s success in neutralizing enemy capabilities and rescuing hostages. He reaffirmed Israel’s determination to change the security landscape for future generations, ensuring that the atrocities of October 7, 2023, would never be repeated.
“We are changing the security reality in our region… to ensure that what happened will not happen again. Never again,” Netanyahu said.
There are still over 100 hostages held in Gaza from more than eight different countries.
