In a significant security operation on Saturday, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.
Military officials reported that the encounter occurred in the Gugaldhar area, where the army acted swiftly to prevent the infiltration from across the border.
The 15 Corps of the army, based in Srinagar, announced the progress of the operation on its X account, stating that security forces have eliminated two terrorists in the ongoing Operation GUGALDHAR.
They also reported the recovery of war-like stores and confirmed that the search of the area is underway as the operation continues.

This operation comes amidst heightened anti-terrorism and anti-infiltration measures in both the hinterland and along the LoC, aimed at ensuring a secure environment for the upcoming legislative Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, emphasized the necessity of maintaining robust security deployments in the region to sustain the prevailing peace.
The situation remains tense, as two army personnel – a Havaldar and a Naik sustained injuries in a landmine explosion during a patrol along the LoC in Kupwara just a day prior.
Intelligence Indicates Foreign Mercenaries Behind Recent J&K Attacks
Intelligence suggests that the terrorists involved in recent attacks are believed to be seasoned foreign mercenaries.
They have executed hit-and-run operations targeting the army, local police, and civilians in the hilly districts of Doda, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi over the last few months.
Following these assaults, the terrorists often retreat to the thickly wooded and mountainous regions, complicating pursuit efforts.
In response to these tactics, the security forces have deployed over 4,000 troops, including elite Para Commandos and personnel trained in mountain warfare, to strategically positioned areas in the Jammu division.
This revised operational strategy has significantly reduced the frequency of terrorist attacks in these districts, allowing security forces to engage terrorists more effectively.
So far, the army has neutralized five terrorists in ongoing operations, highlighting its commitment to countering threats posed by foreign operatives in the region.
