Amit Katyal, Lalu's Close Aid, Granted Relief by Delhi HC in 'Land For Job' Case

Amit Katyal, a close aide of Lalu Prasad Yadav, has received relief from the Delhi High Court regarding the alleged money laundering case linked to the “Land for Job” scandal. The court has modified the bail conditions for Katyal, allowing him to appear before the investigating agency only on the first Monday of each month.

During the hearing, the court noted that the investigation against Katyal has been completed, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint. Katyal’s lawyer highlighted that he has consistently complied with agency summons, appearing whenever called.

Previously, Katyal was required to report to the investigating officer every Monday and Thursday. He was arrested by the ED on November 11, 2023, under various provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED alleges that Katyal purchased land from several job seekers on behalf of Lalu Prasad, the chief of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former Railway Minister. Furthermore, the agency claims that Katyal was a director of AK Infosystems Private Limited, a company involved in these transactions. Other family members of Lalu Prasad are also implicated in the case.

On May 22, a lower court denied Katyal’s bail plea, stating that there were insufficient grounds for his release. However, the recent ruling by the Delhi High Court marks a significant change in his bail conditions.
