The second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail is set to cost approximately Rs 32,237 crore. Final touches are being made to the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for this ambitious project, which includes six corridors spanning a total of 116.2 km.
One key corridor will connect Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to the proposed Fourth City, with an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore. The project will be implemented as a joint venture between the Telangana and Central governments, similar to other Metro projects across India, according to N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML).
Reddy informed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy that the DPRs are nearing completion. HAML is currently awaiting the traffic study report from the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), prepared by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). This traffic data is crucial for validating Metro corridor projections before submitting the DPRs for government approvals.

The Airport Metro alignment is being finalized to pass through Aramghar and the New High Court, ultimately connecting to Shamshabad Airport. The Chief Minister has approved the broad outlines of the Metro Phase II corridors.
Key Corridors:
- Corridor IV: The Airport Metro Corridor will span 36.6 km from Nagole to RGIA, passing through L.B Nagar, Karmanghat, and Shamshabad Junction. This corridor will feature 24 stations, including one underground station at the airport.
- Corridor V: This 11.6 km extension of the Blue Line will run from Raidurg Metro station to Kokapet Neopolis, featuring eight elevated stations.
- Corridor VI: The Old City Corridor will connect MGBS to Chandrayangutta over a length of 7.5 km, including six elevated stations.
- Corridor VII: An extension of the Red Line, this 13.4 km corridor will connect Miyapur Metro station to Patancheru, featuring about 10 stations.
- Corridor VIII: Also an extension of the Red Line, this 7.1 km corridor will run from L.B Nagar to Hayat Nagar, including six stations.
- Corridor IX: Planned from RGIA to the proposed Fourth City, this 40 km line will include a mix of underground, elevated, and at-grade sections.
Reddy mentioned that about 1,100 properties are affected by road widening and the Metro alignment. Notifications have already been issued for 400 properties, with efforts ongoing for the rest. Notably, 103 religious and heritage sites along the route will be preserved through careful engineering solutions.
This second phase of the Hyderabad Metro aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility while contributing significantly to the city’s transport infrastructure.
