SC To Hear Siddique's Anticipatory Bail Plea In Sexual Harassment Case

The Supreme Court is set to hear Siddique’s anticipatory bail on September 30, amid ongoing charges in a sexual harassment case. The case will be examined by a bench comprising Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice SC Sharma.

Siddique’s plea follows the Kerala High Court’s rejection of his anticipatory bail application.

In his petition, the actor contends that the accusations made by an actress are baseless, claiming she alleges he harassed her in a theater for five consecutive years since 2016, including making inappropriate sexual proposals. He further argues that she has now leveled a more serious allegation of rape at a different location within the same year, which he describes as contradictory.

The allegations against Siddique arose after the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlighted instances of harassment and exploitation within the Malayalam film industry. An FIR was filed against him in August, accusing him under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

In the wake of the allegations, Siddique resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. The Hema Committee’s findings have led to investigations into various directors and actors, with the Kerala government establishing a seven-member special investigation team on August 25 to look into these serious claims.
