PM Modi To Address Major BJP Rally In Jammu And Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to deliver a key address at the ‘BJP Sankalp Maha Rally’ this Saturday at M.A. Stadium in Jammu city. The event aims to bolster support for the 24 BJP candidates contesting in the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, scheduled for October 1.

All candidates vying for Assembly seats in the Jammu division will attend the rally, representing districts including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur. The Jammu district has 11 Assembly seats, Samba has three, Kathua has six, and Udhampur has four.

This marks PM Modi’s fourth campaign visit to J&K this election season. He previously addressed rallies in Doda on September 14, followed by events in Srinagar and Katra on September 19.

Local authorities have implemented extensive security measures for the rally and issued traffic advisories to facilitate the expected large turnout.

Historically, the Jammu division has been a BJP stronghold. In the 2014 elections, the party secured 25 out of 87 seats in the J&K Legislative Assembly, predominantly from this region. Following a recent delimitation, J&K now has 90 Assembly seats, with 43 allocated to the Jammu division and 47 to the Valley. This includes new provisions for 9 Scheduled Tribe and 7 Scheduled Caste seats, as well as five nominated members representing the migrant Kashmiri Pandit community and West Pakistan refugees, all of whom will have voting rights in government formation.

The BJP is contesting these elections independently, while its main opponents, the Congress and National Conference, are running in alliance. Officials will count the votes for all three election phases, conducted on September 18, September 25, and October 1, on October 8.
