The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly identified major discrepancies in the inquest report related to the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case, sources revealed on Friday.

These findings raise concerns about the thoroughness of the initial investigation into the death of a woman doctor at the hospital.

One of the key issues flagged by the CBI involved the magistrate’s unusually short time for examining the victim’s body.

Sources say the magistrate had only 20 minutes for the procedure, a time frame deemed insufficient given the severity of the case.

This quick assessment has drawn criticism for potentially compromising the accuracy of the findings.

In legal terms, a magistrate or police officer prepares an inquest report to formally record the circumstances surrounding a death that is sudden, unexplained, or violent.

Meanwhile, it is crucial to determine the cause of death and identify any involvement of foul play.

Investigators suspect that the same haste affected other key processes in the case.

For instance, officials noted a red flag when the autopsy, which typically demands careful attention, took just 70 minutes.

Further scrutiny of the inquest report revealed other concerning omissions.

The report lacked detailed descriptions of the wounds found on the victim’s body, which could have been vital in understanding the nature and extent of the assault.

Additionally, sources noted that the report failed to properly document the various items found near the body, missing critical details that could aid the investigation.

Beyond the inquest report, CBI officials also found inconsistencies between the post-mortem findings and the initial seizure list compiled by the local police.

These contradictions extended to mentions of the victim’s clothing, casting further doubt on the integrity of the initial investigation.

Case Background

The case, which has gripped public attention, revolves around the death of a woman doctor, whose body was discovered under mysterious circumstances in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on 9 August.

Authorities have arrested three suspects so far, but the ongoing investigation continues to expose troubling gaps in their handling of the case.

The CBI took over the investigation following an order from the Supreme Court, and their findings suggest that key steps in the case may have rushed, potentially hampering the pursuit of justice for the victim.
