Mamata Banerjee Accuses Centre Of Withholding PMAY Funds For Three Years

The Chief Minister addressed the state’s flood situation, noting that while some areas have seen improvement, others remain inundated. She blamed Jharkhand’s release of water for causing West Bengal’s floods

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the central government of not releasing funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to the state for the last three years. Banerjee made this statement during an administrative review meeting in Bolpur on Tuesday.

“We have not received any PMAY funds for three years. The Centre owes us Rs 1.70 lakh crore. Despite this, we are trying to allocate houses from our limited resources,” she said.

11 Lakh Houses to Receive Funds Soon

Banerjee announced that funds for 11 lakh houses in the district will be released soon. She also said that restoration of flood-damaged roads will be funded by the development money allotted to local legislators.

The Chief Minister addressed the state’s flood situation, noting that while some areas have seen improvement, others remain inundated. She blamed Jharkhand’s release of water for causing West Bengal’s floods.

Criticism of DVC’s Water Release

Defending her decision to withdraw state representation from the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC), Banerjee accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of causing floods. She said DVC releases water from its barrages without prior notice to the state government.

“I cannot maintain ties with an organization that endangers lives by indiscriminately releasing water. DVC has shifted its focus to power generation, neglecting its responsibility to protect West Bengal from floods,” Banerjee said.
