CBI arrests 3 more after sandip Ghosh in RG kar case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three more individuals on Monday in connection with alleged financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. This follows the detention of the controversial former principal, Sandip Ghosh, who was in charge when a junior doctor was found raped and murdered on August 9.

The CBI arrested Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra, and Biplab Sinha. Ali served as Ghosh’s personal bodyguard, while Hazra and Sinha were vendors supplying medical equipment to the hospital during Ghosh’s tenure.

Sources revealed that the CBI uncovered evidence linking these three to the alleged financial crimes with Ghosh. Sinha and Hazra reportedly benefited from these irregularities.

The primary allegation against Ghosh involves awarding contracts to private and outsourced parties with whom he had connections, bypassing standard procedures. He allegedly secured approval from the state Health Department and the college council to favor these entities.

Additionally, Ghosh faces charges for bypassing the state Public Works Department (PWD) and assigning infrastructure tasks to private entities. He is also accused of illegally selling biomedical waste from the hospital.

Further allegations include using the hospital for personal profit through businesses in others’ names, a serious violation for a government official. The most severe accusation involves the illegal sale of organs from unidentified bodies in the hospital mortuary.

After 16 days of questioning, the CBI arrested Ghosh on Monday evening. Earlier in the day, he appeared at the CBI’s CGO complex office in Salt Lake for interrogation. Later, he was transferred to the CBI’s Nizam Palace office, where the agency’s economic offences wing is investigating the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College.
