As heavy to moderate rains lash various parts of Telangana, several low-lying areas have been flooded, disrupting road connections between villages. In response, the state government has directed district collectors to implement immediate measures to prevent loss of life and property.
On Sunday, September 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Red, Orange, and Yellow alerts for all districts of Telangana, forecasting heavy rains over the next two days. In light of this, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has instructed district collectors to enforce strict safety measures.
The rains have caused streams to swell in districts such as Mahabubabad, Narayanpet, and Khammam, severely impacting normal life. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on standby in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, ready to be deployed if needed.
The state government has mandated the establishment of control rooms in every district collector’s office, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the state secretariat. Additionally, district administrations have been ordered to appoint officers specifically to monitor and manage the overflowing streams.

With the heavy rain forecast and a red alert issued for Hyderabad district, all primary and secondary schools will remain closed on September 2. The government has also emphasized the importance of preventing tank contamination and ensuring proper chlorination to curb the spread of diseases.
Hyderabad’s weather forecast for the next 48 hours predicts moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms, with surface winds likely to reach speeds of 30-40 km/h. Authorities have advised parents and guardians to stay alert to weather warnings and prioritize the safety of their children during this period.
In a proactive move, the state has developed plans to evacuate residents from flood-affected areas and set up relief camps. Irrigation department officials have been placed on high alert and instructed to remain at their posts, ensuring they are prepared to take any necessary precautions.
