The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of AIIMS, New Delhi, ended its strike on Thursday. The protest, which lasted 11 days, was in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The RDA decided to resume work after the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the RG Kar incident and urged medical professionals to return.

In a statement, the RDA expressed appreciation to the Supreme Court for addressing the safety of healthcare workers. The association reaffirmed its commitment to patient care and urged authorities to follow the Supreme Court’s directives. They also welcomed the court’s directive to avoid punitive actions against the protesting doctors.

Despite ending the strike, the RDA plans to continue a ‘symbolic protest’ after duty hours until justice is served.

The Calcutta High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the case. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, is the accused.
