On Friday, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized the silence of INDIA bloc leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in the wake of the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Bhatia’s remarks came during a press conference held at the BJP office.
‘Mamata Banerjee’s Administration Failing On Law & Order’
Bhatia condemned Banerjee as a ruthless leader and accused her administration of failing to maintain law and order in West Bengal.
He demanded her resignation, asserting that the BJP would not tolerate such injustices against women.
“The CBI has now taken over the investigation, and we expect the harshest possible punishment for the perpetrators. No criminal should escape justice, irrespective of any political backing,” Bhatia stated.
He further described the crime as a national tragedy and alleged that Trinamool Congress supporters were obstructing justice by attacking peaceful protesters and tampering with evidence.
“The goonda raj in Bengal is at its peak. Law and order have completely broken down, and Mamata Banerjee is stifling freedom of expression in the state,” Bhatia declared.
Bhatia also accused opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav of hypocrisy. He criticized them for their inaction on the Kolkata incident, despite their public displays of constitutional reverence.
“By staying silent on this grave issue, they are undermining the very principles of the Constitution they claim to uphold,” Bhatia said.
He called on opposition leaders to rise above political considerations and address the issue of violence.
“If Mamata Banerjee cannot manage the state, she should step down. Her insensitivity is evident from the fact that the victim’s family was denied access to her body for hours and initial attempts were made to label the incident as a suicide,” Bhatia further asserted.
The BJP’s condemnation highlights a growing political confrontation over the handling of the horrific crime and the broader issue of governance in West Bengal.
