In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced significant concern over the recent violence affecting Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
Reflecting on the distressing situation in the neighboring country, PM Modi urged for an end to the unrest, emphasizing the need for peace and stability.
“The ongoing violence in Bangladesh, particularly against Hindus and other minority communities, is deeply troubling for us,” PM Modi stated.
“We hope that conditions will soon normalize and that the situation will improve,” PM further added.
The Prime Minister highlighted the widespread anxiety among Indians regarding the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, following recent political turmoil.
The unrest erupted after anti-quota reform protests and the subsequent removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leading to significant violence and numerous casualties.
“All 1.4 billion Indians are concerned about the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh,” PM Modi continued.
“India desires peace and progress for its neighboring nations and remains committed to fostering stability,” the Prime Minister further asserted.
Reaffirming India’s support for Bangladesh, PM Modi conveyed best wishes for the country’s development journey.
“We wish success to Bangladesh in its ‘Vikas Yatra’ (journey of development) and continue to be a supportive neighbor,” PM added.

The Prime Minister also extended his good wishes to Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who is now part of Bangladesh’s interim government.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities. India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development.”

Following the upheaval, Sheikh Hasina fled to India, and the interim government faces the challenge of restoring order.

She has demanded accountability for the perpetrators and expressed sympathy for the affected families.
