Recent heavy rains and flooding in Yemen have claimed 61 lives, according to a report by the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Yemen.

Xinhua news agency reported that severe weather in Marib, the northeastern province, killed 4 displaced individuals and injured 20 others.

The devastating weather has impacted over 7,000 displaced families in Marib, causing significant damage.

The statement reveals that severe weather has fully affected 2,973 families and caused partial damage to 4,206 families across 41 camps and sites for internally displaced persons.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Sunday that the torrential rains have impacted 34,260 families, with displaced persons suffering the most.

The severe flooding however has led to widespread devastation throughout the country.

In response to the worsening situation, Yemen’s National Center of Meteorology has issued warnings advising citizens to avoid watercourses and exercise extreme caution.

The center anticipates continued heavy rainfall, flooding, and strong winds, particularly in the highlands and the western and southern regions of Yemen.

On Thursday, the Yemeni government appealed for international assistance to address the extensive damage caused by the recent heavy rains and floods.
