Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended heartfelt congratulations to the Indian hockey team after they secured their second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympic Games. India triumphed over Spain with a 2-1 victory in the third-place playoff match.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh was the hero of the match, scoring twice in quick succession (30th and 33rd minutes). Spain’s captain Marc Miralles netted their only goal in the 18th minute from a penalty stroke.

Later today, Germany will face the Netherlands in the final.
