Rahul Gandhi Claims ED Planning Raid Against Him, Says, “Chai And Biscuits On Me”

Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is preparing to conduct a raid against him. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Gandhi stated that he had been informed by sources within the ED about the potential raid and expressed his readiness to cooperate, saying he was “waiting with open arms.”

Moreover, in his post, Gandhi referenced his recent speech in the Lok Sabha, delivered on July 29, during a debate on the Union Budget 2024. He further suggested that the upcoming raid was a response to his critical remarks about the budget. “Apparently, 2 in 1 didn’t like my Chakravyuh speech. ED ‘insiders’ tell me a raid is a planning. Waiting with open arms, @dir_ed. Chai and biscuits on me,” Gandhi wrote.

In his speech, Gandhi had criticized the NDA government, accusing it of betraying the middle class and fostering an environment of fear through the budget announcements. Drawing from the Mahabharata, he like the current political situation to the ancient “Chakravyuh” formation to trap the warrior Abhimanyu, suggesting that a similar strategy employe against India’s youth, farmers, women, and small businesses.

The BJP has reacted strongly to Gandhi’s statements. BJP MP Anurag Thakur condemned the comparison to the Chakravyuh, asserting that the Congress party itself has been responsible for numerous political and social challenges in the country. Thakur criticized the Congress for its historical role in dividing the nation, enumerating what he termed as “seven Chakravyuhs” caused by the party.

However, the Union Budget 2024, which spark the controversial debate, by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23 in the Lok Sabha.
