Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken decisive action in response to a disturbing harassment case that unfolded on the flooded streets of Gomti Nagar.

On Thursday, Adityanath ordered the dismissal of several high-ranking police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) East, and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), in light of the incident.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media showing men harassing a woman while she rode pillion on a motorcycle through floodwaters.

The footage, which quickly went viral, depicted men attempting to stop the bike and drag it to the ground in broad daylight.

The Chief Minister expressed his profound disappointment with the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, and took swift action.

In addition to the high-profile dismissals, CM Adityanath also suspended all officers at the Gomti Nagar police station and the Inspector overseeing Samtamulk Chowki.

The Lucknow Police Commissioner has since detained four suspects, identified as Pawan Yadav, Sunil Kumar, Viraj Sahu, and Muhammad Arbaaz.

The police are continuing their efforts to locate additional suspects involved in the harassment.

The police have filed cases against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which address outraging a woman’s modesty.

In an address to the UP Assembly, Chief Minister Adityanath underscored the seriousness with which his administration views women’s safety.

He criticized the opposition for their perceived leniency towards the accused and reiterated his commitment to ensuring the protection of women in the state.

“Women’s safety is a major issue for us,” Adityanath stated. “Anyone who tries to create chaos will suffer the consequences themselves.”

The Chief Minister also directed a manhunt for the remaining suspects and formed four distinct teams to assist in their capture.
