Despite the ongoing political unrest and emergency situation in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains confident about hosting the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup as scheduled.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been monitoring the situation closely following the imposition of a state of emergency by the Bangladeshi government last week. This emergency measure implement in response to widespread protests and violence.

The Women’s T20 World Cup is set to take place from October 3 to October 20, featuring ten teams competing in 23 matches over 18 days. The matches at two venues: the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.
BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury affirmed the board’s commitment to the tournament, stating, “As of today, all I know is that we are hosting the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as planned and we are working accordingly to ensure that.”
BCB President Nazmul Hasan and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury returned to Dhaka on July 26 after attending an ICC meeting in Colombo.
Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, chairman of the BCB’s women’s wing and a current member of parliament from the ruling party, reassured that there is sufficient time to organize the event successfully. “We are hopeful that everything will be fine in the coming days,” Nadel told Cricbuzz.
He highlighted past instances when international teams, including Australia and England, visited Bangladesh under challenging conditions, such as political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic. “The situation is improving with each passing day, and we remain optimistic about hosting the tournament,” Nadel added. “We are proceeding with our preparations as planned.”
