IAS Officer Devi Sharan Upadhyay Suspended Over Corruption Charges

The Uttar Pradesh government has officially suspended IAS officer Devi Sharan Upadhyay amid allegations of corruption.

Recently stripped of his position as a Member of the Judicial Revenue Council in Prayagraj, authorities placed Upadhyay on a waiting list as part of this disciplinary action.

This suspension aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s stringent zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, following findings that Upadhyay issued improper orders regarding land leases in Aligarh.

Upadhyay, a 2012-batch IAS officer, has been with the Judicial Revenue Council since July 2022.

He faces accusations of unilaterally restoring leases for 35 plots in Aligarh, despite recommendations from the district administration to cancel these leases due to irregularities.

The district administration flagged this issue to the Revenue Council, highlighting that established rules violated the leases granted.

In light of these concerns, the Divisional Commissioner of Aligarh lodged a formal complaint at a higher level.

After these developments, the Appointment Department put Upadhyay on the waiting list on 13 July, leading to his suspension by the Chief Minister’s directive.

During his suspension, officials will attach him to the Revenue Board. Additionally, a high-level committee has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
