Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the latest phase of the JP Ganga Pathway, known as the Marine Drive of Patna, on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in infrastructure development in the state capital.

The newly completed 4.5 km stretch extends the existing 12.5 km pathway from Digha to Gaighat, further connecting it to Patna Ghat along the banks of the river Ganga.

This expansion aims to alleviate traffic congestion previously experienced on the narrow Ashok Rajpath, where expanding the road was impractical due to surrounding dense constructions.

The JP Ganga Pathway now offers a four-lane road that runs parallel to Ashok Rajpath, facilitating smoother connectivity from Digha in the west to Malsalami in the east of Patna.

With the completion of this phase, commuters will enjoy enhanced accessibility to key landmarks like Patna Sahib Gurudwara via Kangan Ghat.

However, the approach road linking Patna Ghat with Ashok Rajpath is still under construction, while the approach road at Kangan Ghat has been completed and is ready for operation.

On June 24, 2022, officials inaugurated the first phase of the project stretching from Digha to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Later, officials opened the second phase extending to Gaighat to the public on August 14, 2023.

The total length of the JP Ganga Pathway from Digha to Malsalami spans 20.5 km, with ongoing work focused on the installation of pillars and segment fittings for the remaining 3.5 km.

The inauguration of this expanded pathway underscores Bihar’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure, providing residents with improved transport facilities and easing traffic congestion in Patna.
