Hemant Soren's Government Proves Majority Amidst Legal Battle
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s decision to grant bail to Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case linked to a land scam.
This move by the ED followed shortly after Hemant Soren’s government successfully demonstrated its majority in favor of the JMM-led coalition.

Hemant Soren, who was released on bail on July 4, assumed the role of Chief Minister for the third time, originally scheduled for July 7 but rescheduled after a meeting with Jharkhand governor CP Radhakrishnan. The reasons behind this sudden change were not officially disclosed by the JMM and Congress, although sources indicated there was no prior official communication regarding the date change.
On June 28, Soren was released from Birsa Munda Central Jail following the Jharkhand High Court’s bail order pronounced by Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay. Soren had been arrested by the ED in January in connection with the case, which revolves around large-scale money laundering through the use of forged documents to illegally acquire valuable land parcels.
Before his arrest on January 31, Hemant Soren had tendered his resignation from the Chief Minister’s post.
