A tragic incident unfolded at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, where a blaze claimed the lives of eight workers, with another succumbing to injuries later. Located in Sengamalapatti near Sivakasi, renowned as India’s fireworks hub, the private firecracker factory became engulfed in flames, prompting swift response from police and fire service personnel who evacuated the injured to the government hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although initial reports indicate that approximately ten workers were present during the explosion. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured assistance, pending approval from the Election Commission.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in February, when an explosion at a fireworks factory in Virudhunagar district claimed the lives of 10 individuals, including four women. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sympathies and announced financial support of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of the deceased, along with ₹50,000 for the injured.
