In a defiant response to the BJP’s recent jibe likening him to a ‘peon’, Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi asserted his political prowess, emphasizing that he wasn’t subservient to the Gandhi family. Sharma, a seasoned politician, expressed confidence in defeating BJP’s Smriti Irani in what was once Congress’s stronghold.
The surprise move of fielding Sharma from Amethi came amidst a strategic shift, with Rahul Gandhi, the former MP of Amethi, opting to contest from Rae Bareli, his mother Sonia Gandhi’s former constituency.
Sharma clarified that his candidacy was endorsed by the party high command, refuting claims of being a mere employee of the Gandhi family or on Congress’s payroll. He traced his roots in Amethi back to 1983 through his association with the Youth Congress, underlining his long-standing political career.
Asserting his resolve, Sharma confidently proclaimed his victory over Irani, signaling a spirited electoral battle. The BJP’s attempts to undermine the opposition were rebuffed by Sharma, who accused them of deflecting from pertinent issues and resorting to media manipulation.

Criticizing Prime Minister Modi for unfulfilled promises made in 2014, Sharma highlighted the BJP’s failure to address pressing concerns despite their rhetoric. Known for his loyalty to the Gandhi family, Sharma had been instrumental in managing the political landscape of Amethi and Rae Bareli.
The BJP’s derogatory remark, labeling Sharma as a ‘peon’, was met with disdain, with Sharma dismissing it as a desperate tactic. BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh’s insinuations were brushed aside, with Sharma reaffirming his determination to clinch victory in the upcoming polls.
As the electoral showdown looms, the battleground of Amethi and Rae Bareli awaits the verdict of the electorate on May 20th.
