On Wednesday, the NIA made another significant breakthrough in the Attari drugs seizure case by apprehending key accused, Athar Saeed alias Chacha.

This latest arrest brings the total number of arrests to eight in connection with the high-profile case.

As per reports, Athar Saeed allegedly handled the proceeds of the drugs under the instructions of the main perpetrator, Shahid Ahmed.

Athar Saeed was taken into custody following raids at his residence in Delhi’s Darya Ganj area. The NIA also seized incriminating documents.

The agency stated that these documents are currently under examination as part of efforts to unravel the complete conspiracy behind the extensive drugs racket.

NIA investigations found Athar’s key role in setting up and managing a network of hawala operators to transfer drug sale proceeds from India to Afghanistan and the UAE.

Through these channels, he facilitated the transfer of funds to the main accused individuals located abroad.

Additionally, allegations claim that Athar played a crucial role in aiding the prime accused to evade authorities and flee the country.

The case revolves around the recovery and seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin, totaling 102.784 kilograms, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 700 crores.

The narcotics had made their way into India from Afghanistan via the ICP Attari in Amritsar, cleverly hidden within a shipment of Licorice roots (Mulethi).

The Attari drugs seizure case has garnered widespread attention due to its significant scale and implications for national security.

With the latest arrest, the NIA continues its relentless pursuit of justice and aims to dismantle the entire network involved in the illicit drug trade, both domestically and internationally.
