Delhi High Court Dismisses PIL Against Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh

Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh received a significant reprieve from the Delhi High Court as it dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against him, deeming it unworthy of further consideration. The PIL, lodged by Vijay Kumar, alleged that Singh’s tenure in Uttar Pradesh since 2015 violated legal provisions. However, the court’s ruling quashed these claims.

Singh, who garnered attention for initiating 66 FIRs against Samajwadi Party luminary Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan, faced scrutiny over his prolonged stay in the state. Despite his tenure originally slated to conclude on February 14, 2024, the state government granted him a six-month extension. A member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) belonging to the Sikkim cadre, Singh tranferred to Uttar Pradesh from Sikkim on February 16, 2015.

Upon his arrival, amidst the governance of the Samajwadi Party, Singh assumed roles of increasing responsibility. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav appointed him as the District Magistrate of Bulandshahr on July 25, 2016. Subsequently, with the advent of the Yogi government, Singh assumed the position of District Magistrate in Fatehpur on June 7, 2018.

Singh’s tenure in Fatehpur was marked by proactive measures to alleviate traffic congestion, notably through initiatives to widen roads and mitigate jams. Hailing from Salahabad village in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, Singh’s upbringing was influenced by his father, Dr. Mahendra Singh, who served as the Head of the Geography Department and Chief Proctor at DCSK PG College, Mau, before retiring.

The rejection of the PIL by the Delhi High Court underscores the confidence placed in Singh’s administrative capabilities, reaffirming his continued service in the state. His tenure, characterized by proactive governance and decisive action, reflects his commitment to addressing pressing issues and improving the quality of life for residents. As Singh’s journey continues, his contributions to public service remain integral to the developmental narrative of Uttar Pradesh.
