A speeding car allegedly struck a group of individuals on the Yamuna Expressway (YXP) in Greater Noida, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to two others. According to authorities, the driver of the car, who was arrested by the police, purportedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident.
“A group of three men was standing along the YXP on Sunday evening when the incident occurred in the Jewar area. A Maruti Swift car registered in Delhi collided with the trio, who were subsequently admitted to a nearby private hospital. Sadly, one individual, identified as Suresh Singh (37) from Jahangirpur in Jewar, succumbed to his injuries, while the others are receiving medical treatment,” stated a local police official.
The driver, identified as Raja Kumar, a bank official from Delhi, has been charged under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, as per police statements. “During the investigation, the driver confessed to falling asleep while driving on the expressway, leading to the accident,” the official informed PTI.
The accused was granted bail by the court. In 2023, Gautam Buddh Nagar, comprising Noida and Greater Noida cities, witnessed 1,176 road accidents resulting in 470 fatalities and 858 injuries, according to official records. In 2022, the district recorded 437 deaths and 856 injuries, according to official data.
