Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Telangana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) on Monday, particularly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about “Shakti,” stating that while some speak of its destruction, others revere it.
Addressing a rally in Telangana, Modi emphasized his respect for Shakti, viewing every daughter, mother, and sister as embodiments of strength. He challenged the opposition, asserting that the upcoming Lok Sabha election results on June 4 would reveal who stands for the empowerment of Shakti and who seeks its demise. Modi expressed gratitude for the support of “Nari Shakti” (women) and declared his readiness to defend and uphold their strength, even at the cost of his life.

Meanwhile, at a rally in Mumbai marking the launch of INDIA’s joint poll campaign, Rahul Gandhi suggested that the essence of power resided in various governmental institutions and processes, without explicitly naming individuals. He recounted an incident involving a senior leader from Maharashtra who expressed shame for lacking the ability to confront this perceived power, hinting at the challenges posed by government agencies. Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan responded to Gandhi’s remarks, asserting their lack of applicability to him and dismissing any insinuations.
Opposition parties have frequently raised concerns about alleged targeting by federal agencies under the BJP-led Union government ahead of elections. However, the government and federal agencies have repeatedly denied these accusations.
