Youth for Jammu and Kashmir proudly presents an exciting opportunity for the residents of the region with its latest initiative, “Know Your Roots: History of Your Village.”
This unique online competition is centered around the art of documentary filmmaking and aims to delve into the rich historical and cultural tapestry of Jammu and Kashmir’s villages.
The competition calls upon participants from across Jammu and Kashmir to craft short documentaries highlighting the essence and evolution of their respective villages. With a deadline set for March 30, 2024, aspiring filmmakers have ample time to delve into their roots and weave compelling narratives that capture the essence of village life in the region.
Competition’s primary objective:
The initiative seeks to visually document the essence and development of town and village life in Jammu and Kashmir through documentary filmmaking. Its goal is to involve a broad audience in comprehending and valuing the region’s historical and cultural wealth, while also establishing a digital archive of documentaries that showcase the distinctive narratives and heritage of each village, ensuring their preservation for posterity.
Eligibility criteria:
Eligibility for participation is open to individuals up to 40 years of age, with a geographical focus on villages within the Kashmir valley. Documentaries are expected to have a runtime of 8-10 minutes, allowing filmmakers to succinctly encapsulate the essence of their village narratives.
Recognition and prizes:
Participants stand to gain recognition and awards through an online showcase, along with certificates and cash prizes. Completed documentaries are to be submitted digitally via YouTube, with privacy settings set to ‘Unlisted’ and protected by a password. Submissions can be sent to youthforjk@gmail.com.
