Governor CP Radhakrishnan should extend an invitation to Champai Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, to form the next government, he said on Thursday. Champai Soren mentioned “a situation of confusion” in the state during his meeting, noting that Hemant Soren’s dramatic arrest by the Enforcement Directorate last evening on allegations of money laundering has left the state without a Chief Minister.
Champai Soren, along with five MLAs from the ruling JMM-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal, met Governor Radhakrishnan at his Ranchi residence, Raj Bhawan. After showing the governor a 49-second roll-call video, he told the governor he had the support of 43 MLAs from the alliance.
“We stand united… all 43 MLAs are staying at Circuit House (a state government guesthouse),” Mr. Soren told the media. “The Governor assured us he will soon decide on our request.”
Consequently, the swearing-in ceremony’s date and time have not yet been disclosed.
Following an impassioned plea in which Mr. Soren—who is already widely regarded as a Chief Minister-in-waiting—urged the Governor to act immediately, the two met.”…the government is absent for eighteen hours. There is a state of uncertainty. As the head of the constitution, we anticipate that you will act quickly to establish a popular government,” he wrote.
After Hemant Soren resigned and was taken into custody by the central agency, Champai Soren was selected late last night to lead the JMM’s legislative party.
Hemant Soren was placed in judicial custody for a maximum of one day earlier today by a special court in Ranchi. This was due to the fact that Mr. Soren had already filed a challenge to his arrest with the Supreme Court.

Additionally, he described his arrest as “illegal and without jurisdiction.” Mr. Soren has previously brought a case under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Act against senior officers of the investigation agency.
