Closure of Slaughterhouses and Meat Shops on January 22

The General Secretary of the Delhi Meat Merchant Association, Irshad Qureshi, has urged all meat and fish traders to close their shops on January 22 as a mark of respect for the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. Qureshi emphasized the importance of unity and harmony between communities and stated that the appeal aims to bring people together.

To honor the sentiments of the people during the “pran pratishtha” ceremony in Ayodhya, all slaughterhouses, as well as meat and fish shops in Delhi, have been requested to suspend their operations for the day. Qureshi explained that the intention behind this appeal is to show respect for the celebration of the Hindu community on the occasion of the Ram temple inauguration.

Qureshi mentioned that the one-day closure would not significantly impact the traders, and he emphasized the importance of respecting the sentiments of both communities. In solidarity with this initiative, several restaurants in Delhi’s Connaught Place have also announced their decision not to serve non-vegetarian food to customers on January 22.

Amit Gupta, the Joint Secretary of the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA), shared that many restaurants in Connaught Place have committed to serving only vegetarian food on the day of the “pran pratishtha” ceremony in Ayodhya. The ceremony, scheduled for January 22, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various VVIPs.
