The Supreme Court has issued a final opportunity to states that haven’t submitted their responses in a petition advocating the determination of minorities based on population in each state. The court mandated a fine of Rs 10,000 for non-compliance within six weeks for states failing to provide necessary data according to the previous order. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for April. Additionally, the court directed the Central Government to submit a status report two weeks before the upcoming hearing.

In the latest update, the Center informed the Supreme Court that responses have been received from 24 states and 6 union territories, while 6 states/union territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, and Telangana, are yet to file their replies.”
